How you can help Ukraine from Spain

Because Russia invaded Ukraine last week on February 24, the United Nations has said that around 800,000 civilians have left the country.

The EU estimates that the number can rise to four million, escape to the closest countries such as Poland, Romania, Hungary and Moldova, as well as other countries in the EU.

Residents in Spain may feel helpless when they watch events in Ukraine and border countries are revealed, but there are many things you can do to do help from afar and make a difference.

Donation

One of the main things you can do to help the situation in Ukraine is to donate money to various charities and NGOs that can buy and send supplies to the people who need it most.

Because the conflict began, there have been many campaigns and appeals from several largest charities in the world and aid organizations.

UNHCR.

The United Nations and Humanitarian Partners have launched coordinated emergency appeals for a combination of US $ 1.7 billion to immediately provide humanitarian support to people in Ukraine and refugees in neighboring countries. Donate here.

International Red Cross

Cáritas.

Stay night

If you are a accommodation provider, like the owner of the hostel or run Airbnb, bed and breakfast or hotel, you can help by donating some of your rooms to Ukrainian refugees through a night's stay. The marketing agency stay tonight has launched this program in partnership with cheapTraveller and you can find out more about it here.

Help

According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE) there are more than 112,000 Ukrainians living in Spain and many of them have organized aid in the form of food and medical supplies to be sent to Ukraine to help their friends and family in need.

If you cannot donate money, this is where you can donate things like food, clothing, and medical supplies in various fields in Spain.

In Madrid

Ucramarket supermarket (Calle Méndez Alvaro, 8) collected clothing, food, blankets, and medicines to be sent to refugees in Poland and Romania.

Asociación Cultural Svitanok requested medicines and medical equipment to be sent to hospitals in Ukraine. They will publish collection points, days and time on their Facebook page.

In Barcelona

The Ukrainian community in Barcelona has established a collection of points throughout the city for food donations and other ingredients, which they will send to Ukraine through the Ukrainian Consulate.
